Casino comparison methodology

A casino list is only useful if you can understand why a brand appears and what the comparison leaves out. WagerFreeSpins separates regulatory checks, payment evidence, promotional terms, customer feedback and financial scale instead of treating them as interchangeable signs of quality.

What our research does—and does not—establish

Our current assessments are based on published documents. We have not carried out account-opening, deposit, withdrawal or customer-support tests. An operator’s description is labelled as such, not presented as a personal experience. An active licence is an eligibility check, not proof that every player will have a good experience.

For British casino comparisons, we check the operator’s remote casino permission and the brand’s domain in the Gambling Commission public register. A corporate group, licensed operator and consumer casino brand are different entities. A group’s figures or a sister brand’s terms are not automatically assigned to another casino.

Different questions need different comparisons

Overall casino comparisons
A numerical editorial score requires a published rubric, version, weights and evidence for each component. Where those are incomplete, we describe the available evidence without inventing an overall score. Commercial commission is not a scoring input.
Largest operators
Our current largest-operators page orders casino brands by estimated UK brand-search interest, which is a reach proxy, not company revenue, customer count or a quality score. A future financial comparison would need a matched reporting entity, period, currency, metric and geographic scope. Revenue, net gaming revenue and customer stakes are not interchangeable. Global group revenue does not establish a casino brand’s British market share. Incompatible figures belong in separate comparisons, not one league table.
Customer and specialist ratings
Our composite combines three different measures; it is not an average of customer opinions alone. The calculation and exclusions are explained below.
Withdrawals
Operator processing and arrival at a bank are separate stages. Announced times and independently timed results must remain separate. Comparisons require a common method, time unit and measurement basis. “Instant after approval” does not establish the time before approval.
New casinos
Our working definition is a brand launched within the previous 24 months, with the observation date and cutoff disclosed. A licence issue date, new owner or website redesign is not enough to establish a new brand launch.
Payment methods
Supported methods are listed alphabetically, not as a best-to-worst score. Carrier billing means a charge to a mobile account; it is not Apple Pay or Google Pay. Conventional bank transfer does not by itself establish open banking. Deposits and withdrawals are checked separately.

How the ratings composite is calculated

The current formula, ratings-equal-v1, converts Trustpilot’s five-point TrustScore to ten points and gives it equal weight with Casino Guru’s ten-point Safety Index and AskGamblers’ ten-point CasinoRank:

Composite = (TrustScore × 2 + Safety Index + CasinoRank) ÷ 3

These platforms measure different things. We preserve the original component scores, source links, observation date and Trustpilot review count so readers can interpret that difference. The review count is context, not an extra weight.

All three observations must match the casino identity and the same research date. A country-specific profile cannot silently be replaced with another territory’s profile. A missing or conflicting component excludes that casino from the composite; it is not converted to zero or replaced with an average of the other two. Scores are ordered before rounding, displayed to two decimal places, with stable brand IDs breaking exact ties.

Offers and unknown conditions

Before a promotional claim is eligible, its record needs the qualifying deposit and stake, spin count and value, game, wagering basis, eligibility, expiry, winnings cap, payment exclusions and source terms. “Unknown”, “zero” and “unlimited” are distinct values. We do not fill missing restrictions with reassuring assumptions.

An offer that requires a deposit is not labelled no-deposit. A zero wagering multiplier does not remove identity checks or other applicable conditions. Our wager-free spins guide explains that distinction.

Dates, changes and corrections

Evidence records retain their source, actual check date, review deadline and the precise claim they support. Draft, unsupported and contractually expired claims remain excluded; expired offers do not create active recommendations. An overdue editorial review date alone does not remove a previously documented payment method: where the dated-continuity policy applies, its original checked date and an overdue-review notice remain visible. This is not a fresh verification or a guarantee of cashier availability.

The same central record supplies each comparison that uses it. We do not maintain separate copies of an offer or payment claim for every URL. Findings that conflict are retained for resolution, rather than choosing whichever version makes the casino look better.

We do not force twenty recommendations into a category. Where evidence is insufficient, a page may explain the subject and its limitations without a commercial ranking. Missing evidence is not proof of poor service or evidence that no casino in the market supports a feature.
