Caribbean Stud Poker: decisions and optional jackpots
Caribbean Stud Poker is a five-card, house-banked live game. The player sees their dealt cards and must decide whether to continue or fold before the dealer’s complete hand is revealed. An optional 5+1 Bonus and a progressive-jackpot wager can add separate costs and settlements. This guide keeps those layers apart so the table minimum and jackpot display are not mistaken for the total amount at risk or a guaranteed prize.
The dealer must qualify
Evolution’s live-poker catalogue describes five cards dealt to each side, a raise-or-fold decision and an Ace-King-or-better dealer qualification threshold. A BetMGM UK game-rules page provides an example of full settlement rules and explicitly tells readers to check the specific in-game Help and Paytable for each variant.
In the BetMGM rules example, continuing means a Call bet equal to twice the Ante. If the dealer does not qualify, the Ante pays even money and Call returns; a qualifying dealer’s higher hand can lose both, while a tie returns both. These are stated rules of that operator’s described table, not a promise that every Caribbean Stud product or jackpot configuration has the same values.
| Layer | What it is | What to inspect |
|---|---|---|
| Ante | Opening main-game wager. | Fold and dealer-qualification treatment. |
| Call | Further stake to continue after seeing cards. | Required multiple and main-hand paytable. |
| 5+1 Bonus | Optional separate wager using player cards and dealer’s exposed card. | Qualifying five-card combination and whether fold affects it. |
| Jackpot | Optional entry to fixed or progressive prizes. | Separate chip, eligibility and actual displayed prize. |
Calculate full exposure before the choice
Under the cited version’s ratio, a £2 Ante followed by a £4 Call totals £6 in main stakes. A chosen 50p 5+1 bet and a separate 50p jackpot bet would make £7 committed for the round. These are arithmetic examples, not current table limits or suggested amounts. Folding avoids the Call but may still lose the Ante; it does not undo optional bets already accepted unless their own rules say so.
A jackpot meter can show a very large number even when the player has not entered that side wager. Evolution describes its progressive feature as optional, and the BetMGM rules state that the jackpot chip must be placed separately. A top prize is conditional on the qualifying hand and the jackpot’s own rules. Do not compare its headline amount with the ordinary main-hand stake as if the same event and probability applied.
Side bets can settle independently
Evolution describes 5+1 as the best qualifying five-card hand assembled from the player’s five cards and the dealer’s one exposed card. The cited BetMGM rules say the Call-or-Fold decision does not change that side bet’s outcome. That is why a player can see a side return alongside a losing main hand, or a main return while the side chip loses. Add all stakes and all credits to understand the net round result.
Keep the hand, accepted bets, decision and round ID if the result or stream is disputed. Check the exact table help and paytable rather than copying a payout chart from a different operator or land-based version. Bonuses may exclude live poker or side wagers, and a supplier catalogue does not establish a current UK casino offer.
