Three Card Poker: qualification and separate wagers

Three Card Poker is played against a dealer using three-card hands; it is not a shortened multiplayer tournament. A round can include a main Ante-and-Play decision and separate optional bets, so a single balance change does not tell you which wager won. This guide explains the dealer qualification threshold, the difference between main and side settlements, and how to total the stakes before a decision.

Three-card hands have their own comparison

Evolution’s live-poker catalogue describes its Three Card Poker product as a dealer contest. The dealer needs Queen High or better to play. Evolution also identifies an Ante Bonus for a Straight or better and optional Pair Plus and Six Card Bonus wagers that are assessed separately. Do not assume a five-card poker hand chart explains every three-card ranking or payout; use the game help screen.

Does a straight beat a flush?

Yes. In the standard three-card hierarchy, the hands run from strongest to weakest as follows: straight flush, three of a kind, straight, flush, pair, then high card. That puts a straight above a flush, unlike the familiar five-card order. Bally’s published Three Card Poker rules show this order; use the rules panel of the exact live table for its version and payout schedule.

PokerStars’ live Three Card Poker explanation likewise distinguishes the mandatory Ante from optional bonus bets. Its operator presentation is a useful rules example, not proof that every UK casino carries the same table or side-bet paytable.

Wager or event Question to ask Separate from
Ante What happens if I fold or the dealer does not qualify? The optional side wagers.
Play decision What additional stake is required to continue? The opening Ante alone.
Ante Bonus Which player hand qualifies and must I continue? Whether the dealer wins the comparison.
Pair Plus or Six Card Bonus Which cards and paytable are used? The main hand’s result.

Dealer qualification is not a side-bet result

A dealer below Queen High and a dealer who qualifies but loses are different main-game events. They may settle Ante and Play in different ways under the exact table rules. The fact that the dealer did not qualify does not by itself prove an optional Pair Plus bet won, and a side-bet return does not establish that the main hand beat the dealer. Read each accepted wager and its credit separately in account history.

A £1 Ante: what is returned?

PokerStars UK’s live-table rules provide one concrete example. If you stake £1 Ante and choose to continue, you add a £1 Play bet, so £2 has been committed. If the dealer does not reach Queen-high, the Ante pays £1 profit and the Play bet is returned: £3 comes back in total, including both original stakes, for a £1 net gain. If the dealer qualifies and your hand wins, both stakes pay 1:1: £4 comes back, a £2 net gain. If the dealer wins, both stakes are lost; on a tie, both are returned. This arithmetic excludes optional side bets and any Ante Bonus. Check the actual table’s rules rather than applying this payout to every variation.

There is also a distinction when you fold: in those PokerStars rules, an Ante Bonus for a straight or better requires you to call or play the hand. Separately staked bonus bets have their own settlement rules. A strong dealt hand alone does not prove every wager will pay.

Evolution’s product description says the optional Pair Plus and Six Card Bonus are evaluated independently at the end of a round. A headline maximum payout is attached to a qualifying rare combination, not to every £1 placed on the table. Do not treat a side bet as insurance for the main Ante.

Make the whole-round cost explicit

As an arithmetic example, an initial £1 Ante and two optional 50p side bets mean £2 committed before any later Play decision. If the displayed Play amount is another £1, total commitment becomes £3. These figures are not claimed table limits or a recommended wagering pattern. Read the exact table’s required Play size and your on-screen total before deciding whether to continue.

If the stream freezes between the decision and final cards, do not assume the Ante was refunded. Check accepted bets, actions and the round identifier, then ask the operator how its interruption rules were applied.

Do not merge poker variants or bonus terms

Caribbean Stud Poker uses five-card dealt hands and an Ace-King dealer threshold. Casino Hold’em uses community cards. Neither guide supplies Three Card Poker’s paytable. A slots or general casino bonus may exclude live poker and optional bets; verify the precise title and terms before relying on it.
